There are a few amazing stories when it comes to the olympics, when it comes to the relationships between athletes of different countries.
Story Number One:
I am not quite sure how the scoring goes when it comes to sailing but apparently you sail quite a few different races and you get scores for every race. There had been seven races performed and the last race (to determine gold) was taking place. The Danes were in first place and to hold onto first place they had to get atleast sixth place in the final race. As they were going out to the line up their mast broke and it looked like they would not be able to sail in the last race : ( BUT then out of nowhere the croatian team let the Danes use their boat since they could not medal anyway. There is the first act of true sportmanship shown in this story. The Danes started 30 minutes late and towards the end were in seventh place. Right then the Danes boat (which is really a croatian boat) capsizes along with the sixth place boat (the US boat). AT this point in the races the US can not win a medal either, so what do they do? They sit in the water and let the Danes get out of the water first so thst they can be in sixth place. Two great showings of sportsmanship and what the olympics trully is about. I think a standing ovation needs to be given to the Croatian and US teams......I could not find pictures of the actual race or the Croatian and US team so here is a picture of the gold medal wining Danish Team.
Story Two:
When you compete against one of your team mates you always celebrate with them even if they beat you. You always congradulate other athletes who do better then you. But when it came to the womens 100 m Hurdles two girls from completely different countries celebrated together with pure happiness. Being trully happy for yourself and a fellow athlete from another country trully does represent what the Olympics are about.
