Celebrating My Grandfather

It seems that in every family there is always one person who is the strong hold and the rock. For many years that was my grandfather. Everything you did revolved around my grandfather. We had never really had any kind of family reunions on my mom's side of the family (Scharn), and the first one we did have was not to celebrate anything, it was my grandfather's funeral. He passed away in Denmark, but that didn't stop his grandchildren and children from paying almost $2000 to fly there last minute for his funeral and then fly back less then 48 hrs after arriving there. The trip ended up being a lot more then just a funeral. Brothers and sisters got reacquainted, and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles learned more about each other. Needless to say that even with a sad moment like this in our lives, we were all laughing and enjoying spending time with each other (just like grandpa would have wanted). So now on the anniversary of his death we celebrate my grandfather, Carl Scharn, by doing things which he loved to do. This year we decided to go out for hot dogs. He had three favorite things to eat, hot dogs, chili, and ice-cream. Since a new hot dog placed had opened up in downtown Encinitas, I decided hot dogs was our adventure for the day, and what a day it was.

N-The-Tube-Dog is a hot dog place inspired by Hawaiian/European style hot dogs. Some people in my family were sceptical of the place because they are more of a European hot dog eating only kind of family, but they entertained me and came. AND IT WAS A SUCCESS! Everybody loved them and had a wonderful time. It was also a time for my sister-in-law and my nieces and nephews to be able to meet Sean, and I think they hit it off pretty well. My nephew instantly jumped into his arms, and Lacey enjoyed having a balloon fight with him. All in all it was a wonderful day, a day I know my grandfather would have thorouly enjoyed......I LOVE YOU GRANDPA!
